Chapter 22

“Dad asked us to see him.”

Lu Huai didn’t spare a glance at Lu Li. Instead, he looked at Pei Xin and said, “Wait here. I’ll bring someone over to send you home!”

“N-no!” Lu Li’s voice cracked. When he heard that Pei Xin was going to be sent away, he quickly stopped the plan.

Lu Huai looked at him impatiently. “Why should she stay here?! Lu Li, think about it carefully. Restricting others’ freedom can be considered a crime!”

Lu Li heard the cold tone in Lu Huai’s voice and shuddered. He had no doubt that if he didn’t let her go, his brother would report her to the police.

Others might not be able to do anything to him, but Lu Huai could definitely put him in jail.

“She chose to stay-.”

Before Lu Li could finish his sentence, Pei Xin quickly interrupted him, “We don’t want to be here. We want to go home!”

Lu Li stared at the latter angrily and wanted to warn her to take back her words, but Pei Xin was busy staring at Lu Huai.

Lu Huai looked at Pei Xin and nodded. He approved of Pei Xin growing her own backbone.

“You can wait here. My people will be here in a while.” Then Lu Huai left without even saying goodbye to Lu Li.

Lu Li was not willing to give up. However, as long as Lu Huai spoke, no one could refute him.

In the Lu family’s study room…

Lu Yu was sitting in front of his desk, reading a book with his glasses on. When he heard the door open, he did not raise his head and only said calmly, “You’re here.”

Lu Huai didn’t say anything. He walked to the chair opposite the desk and sat down, leaving Lu Li awkwardly standing near the door, not knowing what to do.

Whether it was his brother or his father, he always had a sense of fear.

Parents all wanted their children to be successful, and Lu Yu was no exception.

Although he already had Lu Huai to take charge, he was still very strict with Lu Li. Unfortunately, Lu Li was an incompetent person who caused the company to lose out on any deals when he joined. If it wasn’t for Lu Huai backing him up, his mistakes would have caused a major accident.

The room was unusually quiet. After an unknown period of time, Lu Yu closed the book and looked at his two sons in front of him. He slowly exhaled and within those two seconds, he threw the thick book at Lu Li.

Fortunately, Lu Li reacted quickly and dodged to the side.

“Dad! What was that for?” Lu Li was puzzled.

Lu Yu’s tone was calm as if he was not the one who threw the book at his own son. “Director Li just called me and filled me in. I’m quite impressed. It seems like you’ve been spending your time learning how to commit crimes now.”

Hearing that, Lu Li set aside his discontentment and said nothing.

Lu Huai, on the other hand, showed no response. He quietly observed everything in front of him and secretly sneered. The old man was just the same as before.

“You’ve already broken off the engagement with Pei Xin. Why do you insist on bringing her home and keeping her here? Why don’t you use that time to go to work and do something useful for once? Weren’t you embarrassed enough back then?!”

Lu Yu scrunched up his face in disappointment. Back then, the Lu family was the target of ridicule behind others’ backs because of Pei Xin, so his impression of her was tarnished.

“It’s because she owes me! I can’t let it go that easily!” Lu Li said.

“So you found someone to harass her and kept her as a prisoner? Who gave you the right to do such a thing?!” Lu Li wanted to retort, but he could tell from Lu Yu’s face that he had crossed the line. He pursed his lips and stayed silent. He just turned his head to the side, showing his stubbornness.

Although he was afraid of Lu Yu, he knew that he was the most doted on compared to the rest of his siblings.

Lu Yu couldn’t help but sigh when he saw Lu Li’s reaction. He looked at Lu Huai and said, “Lu Huai, Lu Li is still young. As his brother, you should teach him to take the right path, not help outsiders to call the police.”

Lu Huai faced Lu Yu as if he was facing someone else. There was no change in his expression. “He’s twenty-six years old, he’s not young anymore. Moreover, he has both parents to teach him to take the right way, so he doesn’t need me to interfere with his affairs!”

Lu Yu was taken aback. He looked at Lu Huai and didn’t know what to say. After a long time, he said again, “What happened back then is in the past. I will leave this world sooner or later. As brothers, you’ll have to learn how to support each other.”

“Lu Huai, you should give Lu Li a role in the company. He needs a platform to grow. As his brother, you should give him the right tools to grow.”

Lu Huai understood why he was called here for now. He was not here to teach Lu Li a lesson, but he was here to give up his power.

“Did you forget? You don’t have any shares in the company or any real power anymore. I’ve already given him leeway by allowing him into company grounds.” Lu Huai glanced at Lu Li with disgust in his eyes. “By the way, remember to compensate him for the losses he caused to the company.”

With that, Lu Huai stood up and left, leaving Lu Yu and Lu Li at a loss.
